Narrative design prototype (personal work)

Created an asymmetrical, local co-op dialogue system,

and laid the foundations of such a system's game and narrative design.

Character backstory document - Karen Reynolds from Life is Strange 2

For that character, the initial creative constraints from the game directors were that Karen was a woman who had turned her back on her kids and family to live a life of complete freedom; ultimately joining a community of dreamers in a desert commune in Arizona (think Chloé Zhao's Nomadland).
Writing Karen (backstory and all dialogues) was a
very inspiring and exciting challenge for me because her rejection of motherhood initially painted her as a selfish, self-centered character. I tried giving her a voice and establishing who she was as a person to help players better understand where she was coming from, and what her life had been like up until the point we finally get to meet her.
Jolene Anderson was nominated for Best Supporting Role at BAFTA 2020 for her part as Karen.
Reporter Natalie Flores wrote a piece on Karen's character for Paste Magazine, which you can read here.

Karen mugshot.jpg
[Karen] is crucial to the story through both her absence and eventual presence. She is no saintly, romanticized, unreachable enigma, nor a villainized antagonist at the mercy of a patriarchal society’s unforgiving treatment of women who dare to make mistakes and be human. She isn’t killed off to motivate you as a player, she’s complex, and she represents much more than just motherhood.

Poem
(personal work - French)

A short poem about my hometown Sète, a small and peculiar peninsula of sand and limestone on the Mediterranean Sea - and about its hopeless lack of trees or shade to bury secrets under. When writing this poem, I was inspired by the unique nature of this region, and by the words of Paul Valéry and George Brassens - two famous French poets native of the town.

This is a tribute to my hometown and a letter to the future, with climate change and rising sea levels on the horizon.
